NUR 256 - Advanced Professional Nursing Across the Lifespan III

Builds on knowledge gained in NUR 255 . Evidence-based nursing knowledge presented will focus on the nursing process encompassing the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of physical and mental health and the prevention of illness for individuals across the lifespan. Leadership concepts including professional development, ethical aspects of nursing care, and the legal-professional role of the nurse are discussed. Examination of complex nursing knowledge necessary for the care of individuals experiencing endocrine, integumentary, musculoskeletal, and multi-organ system dysfunction. Engaging and interactive class time, along with assignments and exams, are used to facilitate learning.

Course Learning Outcomes:
CLO 1) Students will identify the roles and responsibilities of a practical nurse managing the care of patients care of individuals experiencing endocrine, integumentary, musculoskeletal, and multi-organ system dysfunction.
CLO 2) Students will apply critical thinking skills and knowledge of the nursing process to create an individualized plan of care for complex nursing knowledge necessary for the care of individuals experiencing endocrine, integumentary, musculoskeletal, and multi-organ system dysfunction.
CLO 3) Students will analyze the relationship between physiological alterations; selected disease processes; and patient’s values, spirituality, and culture; and roles in family and community settings.
CLO 4) Students will implement strategies to reduce risks to patient safety based on selected disease processes.
CLO 5) Students will compare and contrast effective and ineffective communication strategies between registered nurses and other healthcare professionals managing patients with complex healthcare needs.
CLO 6) Students will prioritize the needs of a group of patients based on current standards of practice.
CLO 7) Students will evaluate quality improvement measures being utilized to positively impact patient outcomes.
CLO 8) Students will analyze personal practice of resilient behavior to manage stressors unique to being a healthcare professional.
CLO 9) Students will identify the differences between leadership and management roles in nursing practice.
