HVAC 260 - Commercial HVAC Systems **

This course covers the commercial side of HVAC/R by exploring the various types of chillers, cooling towers, and rooftop units used in the commercial industry. Students will learn about the components and refrigerants and how the systems are operated and maintained. Students in this course are eligible to sit for NC3 certifications. Students who are successful in passing the exam will earn certification.

Course Learning Outcomes:
CLO 1) Students will describe the components and operation of commercial HVAC systems including rooftop units (RTUs), variable air volume (VAV) systems, chilled water systems, and boilers.

CLO 2) Students will explain the principles of heat transfer, air distribution, and refrigeration cycles in large-scale HVAC applications.

CLO 3) Students will perform routine service tasks such as filter changes, belt replacements, lubrication, and coil cleaning.

CLO 4) Students will diagnose electrical, mechanical, and control system faults using advanced diagnostic equipment.

CLO 5) Students will apply logical troubleshooting techniques to minimize downtime and ensure system reliability.

CLO 6) Students will identify and resolve issues related to airflow imbalance, refrigerant charge, sensor errors, and system inefficiencies.
