SRT 106 - Surgical Techniques I 6 Credit(s)
An exploration of surgical technology fundamentals, focusing on equipment handling, instrumentation management, supply selection, aseptic techniques, and sterile processing methodologies. This course will include a component that will have a hands-on application of content emphasizing practical skills in surgical equipment management, instrumentation handling, sterile processing, and aseptic techniques.
Prereqs: SRT 103 Co-reqs: SRT 116 & SRT 126 Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Tier III Delivery Method: In-Person Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will identify types, purposes, and characteristics of surgical equipment, instrumentation, and supplies.
CLO 2) Students will demonstrate perioperative handling principles for equipment, instruments, and surgical supplies.
CLO 3) Students will apply aseptic techniques and sterile processing principles in surgical technology practice.
CLO 4) Students will discuss sources of contamination and sterilization requirements for surgical environments.
CLO 5) Students will review proper selection, handling, and management of surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies across diverse surgical specialties.
CLO 6) Students will discuss equipment assembly, usage, and maintenance techniques.
CLO 7) Students will explain sterile processing techniques, including point-of-use cleaning and sterilization methods.
